Just a quick post as to what has been going on with me for the past few weeks.
Peter and I arrived back from Ireland. I think that I picked up a little something on the plane ride back. That will be a lesson to me to ALWAYS wear my vogmask!
I tried my hardest to treat it myself and hold off on going to the doctor. He had prescribed me cipro just in case I was needing it while in Ireland, so I started myself on that. Unfortunately, I had bad shortness of breath and my oxygen saturation levels were having a hard time staying up. I was requiring 3 litres just to walk around the house. What did me in, as I was walking to my car one morning to do my running around for the day, I was gasping for breath and my heart rate was 140. I gave in and called the doc. Luckily they had time to see me.
My grandfather was kind enough to take me to my appointment. Once there, I felt as if I was burning up and my heart was racing. Surprisingly, no fever, but my heart rate was 130 at rest. Lung function was also down to 31%(loss of 3%). I should have packed a bag that morning, because into the hospital I went.
They were able to place the PICC line that night and I was put on Meropenum and Tobramycin. They tried starting me on IV Vancomycin too for my MRSA, but I was unable to tolerate it. So luckily, they switched to to twice a day oral Linezolid.
The second day that I was in, I had noticed that my arm with the PICC line was feeling really warm to the touch and red. I mentioned it to the nurse and she passed it along to the doctor. He ended up ordering an ultrasound of my arm. Well, wouldn't ya know, I was diagnosed with a DVT(deep vein thrombosis) or blood clot, in my right jugular. Currently on Eliquis to hopefully help treat that.
As if I didn't have enough going on, the nurses were ordered to start checking my blood sugars. My first reading was in the 300's. Later that night I was up in the 400's. Because of these numbers they checked my hemoglobin A1C and that came back at a 9.4. HIGH! Because of that number, I was diagnosed with CFRD. Currently on Humalog and working on carb counting and getting my sugars under control.
I was in the hospital a total of 6 days, my longest stay that I can remember.
I just went back yesterday after my 2 weeks of at home IV antibiotics were complete to have PFTS done and have my PICC pulled. I'm happy to say that the antibiotics seemed to do their job.
Happy to report that I blew a 35% yesterday and I am back to baseline!
