Unfortunately, due to my health status, my lungs are just not up to hiking for hours at a time. However, I am proud and honored that I have such a supportive husband who is willing to take on the task.
Peter has been training for the past two months in preparation for hike day. All hikers departed at 8:30 am for the first half of their hike. Along the way there were aid stations set up in case hikers needed extra water. They came back to the start around 11:15 am for lunch and then departed for the second half of the hike. Peter and a few other hikers he was with finished at 2:45pm, so a little more that 6 hours for an almost 16 mile hike. I could tell that Peter had a lot of fun doing the hike. He had a smile on his face for the rest of the day. It was such an accomplishment for him knowing that he could take on the task of hiking almost 16 miles. Peter and I both made some new friends over the weekend. He is already seriously starting to consider the Xtreme Hike taking place this fall, which is a 30 mile hike.
I just want to take a moment and say a big thank you to all of the hikers who participated in this event, and in the Xtreme Hike events nationwide. It is because of people getting together and fundraising for CF that great strides are being taken towards a cure. Again, Thank You!
